We’re excited to share that Formations Magazine is now available at SUN OF THE DESERT in Twentynine Palms.

Formations is a self-published bi-annual magazine centered on the vast landscape of the American desert, with a scope that reaches from California to Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. The publication explores both the rich history of the region and the evolving culture of the artists, writers, and visionaries who call the desert home. Its pages bring together photography, architecture, literature, art, and design in a way that feels thoughtful, grounded, and deeply connected to place.

That perspective is exactly why we’re proud to carry it in the shop. At SUN OF THE DESERT, we’re drawn to objects and publications that reflect the depth, character, and creative energy of desert life. Formations does that beautifully. It’s the kind of magazine you keep on the table, return to often, and share with people who understand what makes this landscape so compelling.

The magazine was founded by Mike Lohr, who writes that his own move to the high desert shaped the publication’s direction. Inspired in part by Randall Henderson of Desert Magazine & Westernlore Press, he launched Formations as a twice-yearly publication focused on the desert’s landscape, history, and contemporary creative community.
